Total Phase has officially released the Advanced Cable Tester v2, a comprehensive testing solution for USB, Apple Lightning, and video cables.
SANTA CLARA, CA – Tuesday, May 21, 2019 – Total Phase, a provider of industry-leading USB, I2C, SPI, CAN, eSPI, and A2B embedded systems tools, announced the addition of a new product to their portfolio, the Advanced Cable Tester v2. The Advanced Cable Tester v2 is the most comprehensive, accurate cable tester on the market. It offers a reduced cost per test and improves the test time by 80% versus its predecessor. Additionally, the Advanced Cable Tester v2 combines the thorough test coverage from the first-generation tool with new capabilities, including enhanced measurement of Rp/Rd/Ra, full support for PD 3.0, and graphical analysis for shorts, opens, and routing. These enhancements make this the ideal tool for high speed production testing in manufacturing environments, as well as detailed failure analysis and statistical process control in lab environments. The Advanced Cable Tester v2 also offers support for a broader range of cable types encompassing USB, Apple Lightning, and video.
Like its predecessor, the Advanced Cable Tester v2 testing includes continuity checks on all pins, DCR and IR Drop tests to confirm that each power pin (VBUS and GND) is capable of carrying the required current to meet the applicable specification, E-Marker verification to validate the accuracy of the advertised versus actual data collected on full-featured cables, as well as signal integrity testing at speeds up to 12.8 Gbps per channel with accompanying eye-diagrams.
Gil Ben-Dov, Total Phase CEO, explains further: “By combining fast test times, thorough test coverage, and a low cost per test, the Advanced Cable Tester v2 provides factories with a new ground-breaking solution, whether for statistical process control to spot-check cables or 100% factory final test to provide individual quality control. When you consider the solution also provides easy-to-understand reports and a cloud offering for test result management, you’ve defined a solution that cable manufacturers and OEMs can use collaboratively to lower costs while improving quality.”
The Advanced Cable Tester v2 allows users to test several USB, Apple Lightning, and video cable types, including Type-C, Standard-A, Micro-B, Standard-B, HDMI, and DisplayPort through easily swappable connector modules. Available connector modules include:
• USB Type-C to USB Type-C (USB 3.2 and earlier specifications)
• USB Type-C to USB Standard-A (USB 3.2 and earlier version specifications)
• USB Type-C to USB Micro-B (USB 3.2 and earlier version specifications)
