Total Phase releases a free EEPROM and Flash Memory Programmer

SUNNYVALE, CA - September 8, 2006 - Total Phase is pleased to announce the release of the Flash Center™ software package, a free I2C and SPI EEPROM and Flash Memory programmer.

The Flash Center software allows engineers to quickly erase, program, and verify I2C- and SPI-based EEPROM and Flash memory chips that are interfaced through our industry-leading Aardvark™ I2C/SPI and Cheetah™ SPI Host Adapters.

"We've had great customer feedback that our Aardvark I2C/SPI and Cheetah SPI Host Adapter work very well with memory devices," says Derek Fung, senior engineer. "Programming EEPROM and SPI Flash memory devices is now made even easier with the Flash Center graphical application."

The Flash Center software is a free package and can be downloaded from the Total Phase website.

Incredibly Fast Programming Speeds

By taking advantage of Total Phase's high performance host adapters, the Flash Center software is able to outperform other memory programmers. Since the Cheetah SPI Host Adapter is capable of signaling at over 40 MHz, the main limitation to programming a flash memory is page commit time. The Cheetah adapter is able to erase, program, and verify a typical 1 Megabyte flash memory in 23 seconds, compared to several minutes by competing device programmers.

"The Flash Center software was developed with engineers in mind," says Kumaran Santhanam, senior architect. "Many of our customers have struggled with other device programmers and emulators that can take several minutes to program a flash memory. By using the Flash Center software with our Cheetah SPI Host Adapter, we can reduce the programming time to a few seconds."

Flexible Memory Device Support

The Flash Center software was designed with an XML-based memory device library. The developer does not have to wait for the next release of the software for the latest memory device to be supported. By adding or modifying the XML descriptions of target memory devices, the developer can instantly support almost any I2C- or SPI-based EEPROM or Flash memory.

The Flash Center software has built-in support for a wide variety of binary formats and memory devices from major memory chip manufacturers. It also has support for programming multiple devices simultaneously through separate host adapters that are connected to a single host computer.
